A closer look

Chess theoretically allows for a game to last exactly five thousand nine hundred and forty-nine moves before being completely exhausted, making it the longest possible match under current standard tournament rules. Of course, absolutely no one has ever played a match this long, mostly because the human brain would completely liquefy from boredom long before reaching the two-thousandth pawn advancement. It is reassuring to know that even a game celebrated as the absolute pinnacle of human strategic intellect could technically devolve into a mindless, repetitive staring contest that lasts longer than a typical corporate staff meeting!
