Chemicals can grow rings like trees

HERE’S THE INTERESTING PART

Matter usually loves chaos, but Liesegang rings are nature’s version of obsessive-compulsive disorder. When certain chemicals react inside a gel, they refuse to just mix into a normal gradient blob. Instead, they undergo periodic precipitation, forming perfectly spaced concentric circles or bands that look identical to the growth rings of an ancient tree.
