Theodor Geisel, universally known as Dr. Seuss, is officially credited with coining the word nerd in his 1950 book If I Ran the Zoo, creating a label that would subsequently be weaponized by bullies in high school hallways for generations; it is profoundly ironic that a man who made millions drawing fuzzy, unidentifiable creatures and writing nonsensical rhymes for children accidentally gifted jocks the ultimate derogatory slur, eventually leading to a modern societal flip where those exact same social outcasts now run multi-billion dollar tech monopolies and furiously hoard limited edition comic books while making the rest of us pay exorbitant subscription fees for basic software
