Argon gas stops active lightbulb filaments from burning up

HERE’S THE INTERESTING PART

Incandescent lightbulbs operate by aggressively forcing massive amounts of current through a tiny wire until it glows furiously. If regular oxygen were present in that bulb, the glowing wire would immediately burst into flames and absolutely destroy itself. Pumping the bulb entirely full of lazy, unreactive argon gas completely prevents the wire from ever achieving highly destructive combustion.
