Why the Diagram Becomes the Cat’s Stage
An esoteric consultation often involves spreading papers, cards, or other objects across a table or floor. To a cat, that setup can look less like a sacred arrangement than an appealing patch of open space: it is flat, accessible, and suddenly receiving a person’s focused attention.
Cats commonly investigate changes in their surroundings. A hand moving a pen, a sheet sliding, or a person leaning over a surface can make the scene more interesting. And if the cat wants contact, stepping into the middle of the activity is a reliable way to get noticed.
A Small Collision of Priorities
The consultant may need every mark to stay visible; the cat may simply want to sit, sniff, or walk through the newly occupied area. The refusal to move can turn a quiet reading into a gentle negotiation—especially when shifting the cat means disturbing the layout all over again.
That mismatch is the joke: the human sees a meaningful diagram, while the cat sees an inviting surface and an audience. The interruption needs no mystical explanation to become memorable. A single paw across the page can make the most carefully arranged consultation briefly about the cat instead.
