By 1682, the scientific revolution was supposed to be in full swing, yet the English town of Bideford still hung three women because the locals couldn't handle their bad luck. The court actually entertained 'evidence' that Temperance Lloyd and her friends were conspiring with the devil, which mostly involved claims that they shapeshifted into a magpie to aggressively stare at people's cows until they died.
