Because orchestrating a global war wasn't evil enough, the architect of the SS decided he also needed to dabble in the dark arts. Heinrich Himmler established a literal 'Witchcraft Research Division' (H-Sonderkommando) to scour medieval records. He was convinced that the Spanish Inquisition was actually a Jewish conspiracy to systematically wipe out pure-blooded Aryan sorceresses. He spent thousands of man-hours trying to mathematically prove his ancestors were magical forest hags. Spoiler: they weren't.
