Puritan colonists baked dog urine and rye meal into a magical cake to desperately identify local witches

When your village is plagued by invisible demons, the most logical solution is obviously urinary baking. During the Salem Witch Trials, desperate Puritans baked a 'witch cake' out of rye meal and the afflicted victims' urine, feeding it to a dog under the bizarre mystical assumption that the canine would magically howl and point out the offending sorcerer.
