How grouping digits helps you remember phone numbers

HERE’S THE INTERESTING PART

Your short-term storage is notoriously pathetic, capable of holding perhaps seven items before spectacularly overflowing. To combat this terrible design flaw, chunking allows you to smash ten digits of a phone number into three little groups. By artificially shrinking the amount of visible data points, you temporarily trick your biology into holding onto the digits long enough to actually dial them.
