The largest media franchise in human history was almost hit with a massive copyright lawsuit before it even began. Satoshi Tajiri originally pitched 'Capsule Monsters,' heavily inspired by the Japanese gashapon vending machines where toys came in tiny plastic orbs. Unfortunately, he struggled to trademark the word 'Capsule.' After several frustrating legal blocks, they casually changed the title to 'Pocket Monsters,' inadvertently creating the portmanteau 'Pokemon' and avoiding a total legal disaster.
