Who needs stable frame rates when your protagonist's ponytail looks absolutely fabulous? In 2013, AMD partnered with developers to introduce TressFX, a system that individually simulated tens of thousands of strands of Lara Croft's hair swaying in the wind. It was incredibly realistic, but turning the feature on immediately tanked performance on virtually any PC without a top-tier graphics card, prioritizing shampoo commercials over actual gameplay.
