The bold white text you see on every classic meme wasn't designed for comedy. The 'Impact' font was originally created in the 1960s purely to be highly legible on terrible early computer monitors. Because it was incredibly easy to read over chaotic background images, it permanently became the official typeface of digital absurdity.
