The Eighth House and What We Share
In astrology, the eighth house is a chart sector traditionally linked to resources that involve other people. Where the second house is commonly read as personal income and possessions, the eighth shifts attention to money and obligations held jointly or transferred between people: loans, taxes, financial support from a partner, and inheritances.
That contrast gives the house its symbolic focus. A debt is not simply money someone owns; it is a promise to repay another party. An inheritance arrives through a relationship and a transfer, rather than through the recipient’s own earnings. The eighth house gathers these entangled arrangements under one theme.
Why the Theme Extends Beyond Money
Astrologers also associate this house with dependence, trust, and vulnerability. Shared finances can make a person’s choices affect someone else, or leave them reliant on another person’s resources. In that symbolic reading, questions about money become questions about boundaries and power: Who owes what? Who has access? What happens when circumstances change?
