The hanger is designed to stay in the closet
On many hotel hangers, the familiar curved hook is replaced by a short fitting that locks into a ring or bracket on the closet rod. The hanger can still move along the rod, but it cannot simply be lifted off and carried away. To take it down, a guest has to remove the fitting from its holder rather than slip a hook over the end of the bar.
The arrangement targets a small, repeatable loss: ordinary hangers are easy to pack by accident or take deliberately, while replacing them across many rooms adds up. Keeping the hanger attached makes that impulse less convenient without preventing guests from hanging or removing clothes.
A small tradeoff for hotel staff
The fixed fitting also changes how the closet works. A guest cannot carry the hanger to a different room or easily use it elsewhere, and staff may need to handle the bracket when replacing a damaged hanger. In return, the hotel can leave hangers available for the next guest without relying on a standard hook that slips off the rod in one quick motion.
It is a modest security measure, not an unbreakable lock: the design simply makes a hotel hanger less useful as something to take home.
