In 1566, the nuns of Amsterdam's St. Ursula convent didn't just have a bad carb day; they sparked a bizarre microhistory of institutional possession. After supposedly ingesting demonic bread slipped to them by a local wizard, the nuns started violently throwing up strange objects, climbing the convent walls like spiders, and making bizarre animal noises. It perfectly highlights how extreme psychological repression inside cloistered walls inevitably explodes into spectacular, highly choreographed supernatural theater.
