A closer look
Humans have unknowingly been geo-engineering the planet using container ships. The massive exhaust fumes from ocean freighters create aerosol particles that seed the atmosphere, resulting in long, distinct cloud streaks called 'ship tracks.' These clouds are actually brighter and reflect sunlight back into space. Paradoxically, recent regulations forcing ships to burn cleaner fuel have reduced these clouds, inadvertently causing the oceans to absorb more heat and slightly accelerating local sea temperature rise.
