Why Amsterdam's houses lean forward

HERE’S THE INTERESTING PART

Centuries-old evidence that moving day has literally always been a nightmare. The staircases inside Amsterdam's iconic canal houses are famously narrow and practically vertical. To solve this, builders intentionally tilted the houses forward and installed massive iron hooks at the top, allowing desperate locals to use a pulley system to yank grand pianos and couches directly through the upper windows.
