The Star Wars asteroids made from a shoe and a potato

When you have a limited budget and exhausted visual effects artists, you simply throw garbage into space and hope no one notices. During the frantic post-production of The Empire Strikes Back, the ILM crew got so fed up with modeling space rocks that they chucked a tennis shoe and a potato into the background of the Millennium Falcon chase scene. Surprisingly, nobody caught on for years.
