Koffing and Weezing were nearly named NY and LA

Nintendo's localization team really went out of their way to roast American infrastructure in the 90s. Before finally settling on Koffing and Weezing, the noxious poison-gas Pokémon were originally slated to be named 'Ny' and 'La' as a direct, unapologetic insult to the severe smog problems in New York and Los Angeles.
