Why amniotic fluid is partly fetal urine
The peaceful, watery womb is actually a lot less glamorous than advertised. By the later stages of pregnancy, the fetus is actively swallowing the surrounding liquid and processing it through its newly formed kidneys. This means that a large portion of amniotic fluid is essentially just sterile fetal urine that is being swallowed and expelled in an endless, gross biological loop.
