Crossovers are fun until they accidentally destroy reality. When the 1980s medical soap opera St. Elsewhere aired its finale, it revealed the entire series was just a daydream inside the mind of Tommy Westphall, a boy staring into a snow globe. Because St. Elsewhere characters had previously crossed over with Cheers, and Cheers birthed Frasier, and John Munch from Homicide appeared in The X-Files and Law & Order, obsessive pop culture historians realized the horrifying truth. According to the "Tommy Westphall Universe Hypothesis," a massive chunk of American television lore technically only exists as the fabricated delusions of one child holding a cheap piece of glass.
