Meerkats put one member on guard duty
Whenever the pack is busy digging for scorpions, at least one designated member is forced to stand entirely upright on a tall rock and stare intensely at the horizon. This solitary guard takes their job extremely seriously, scanning for eagles and barking wildly the moment anything looks suspicious. It is a highly effective neighborhood watch program completely run by small mammals.
