In what might be the most absurd example of code working exactly as intended, the most robust simulation game in history murdered its feline population with math. Dwarf Fortress tracks individual body parts and fluid physics with terrifying precision. When dwarves fought in taverns, they spilled beer. Cats wandered through these microscopic puddles of ale, coating their paws. Because the procedural ecology includes basic hygiene mechanics, the cats would later lick their paws clean, ingesting the alcohol. Since their body mass was so tiny, this single drop of ale immediately gave them fatal alcohol poisoning, forcing developers to rewrite the sobriety mechanics of digital pets.
