Most politicians would commit terrible crimes to receive a completely unearned prestigious degree, but not America's 13th president. When Oxford University offered Millard Fillmore an honorary diploma written entirely in Latin, he bluntly turned it down. His deeply cynical reasoning was that he absolutely couldn't read a word of Latin, and he refused to accept a document he couldn't actually decipher.
