Alaska's giant dunes can reach 100 degrees

When you think of the frozen Alaskan tundra, you naturally picture... massive, sweltering sand dunes. Deep inside the Kobuk Valley National Park sits 25 square miles of rolling sand dunes that can reach 100 degrees in the summer. Created by ancient glaciers grinding rocks into fine sand, it is the last place on Earth you'd expect to need sunscreen and a camel.
