Sigurd the Mighty was a ninth-century Viking earl who managed to get murdered by an enemy he had already decapitated several hours earlier. After successfully killing his rival in battle, the victorious Norseman strapped the severed head to his horse's saddle as a gruesome medieval trophy. As Sigurd rode home to brag about his conquest, the bucking horse caused the dead man's prominent buck teeth to repeatedly scrape against the earl's leg. The bizarre scratch quickly became infected, and Sigurd died of blood poisoning shortly after, securing his legacy as the only warlord to lose a fight to a guy whose body was already rotting miles away
