Removing horns from dairy cows is a bloody, brutal process. To avoid it, geneticists have edited the genome of dairy breeds to include the naturally occurring 'polled' gene from beef cattle. Now, the calves are simply born without the biological blueprints to grow horns, solving a welfare issue through sheer genetic brute force.
