Cotton gins use fine combs to tear seeds from plant fibers

HERE’S THE INTERESTING PART

Picking the sticky seeds out of raw cotton by hand is a miserable existence. The cotton gin fixes this by dragging the fluffy raw cotton through a terrifying series of incredibly fine, circular metal teeth. The gaps are just narrow enough to let the soft fiber rip through while physically blocking the hard seeds, automating the absolute worst part of textile production.
