Mourning typically follows a funeral, but for caregivers of Alzheimer's patients, the funeral is just a grim formality. They suffer from anticipatory grief, a relentless, agonizing psychological state where they must continuously mourn the incremental loss of their loved one's personality, memories, and essence while the physical body remains perfectly alive. It's an ambiguous, unresolved trauma that completely exhausts the brain's emotional reserves.
