Trains used to have open observation cars

Early rail operators thought passengers would love sitting outside in chairs while hurtling down the tracks. While the panoramic views were undeniably spectacular, patrons were constantly pelted by hot soot, flying cinders, and aggressive bugs. Unsurprisingly, people quickly realized glass windows were a vastly superior viewing technology.
