Being too neat with your garage wiring is surprisingly hazardous. Running heavy electrical current through a tightly wrapped extension cord turns the entire spool into a massive heating element. Without the ability to vent the warmth, the insulated wire can quickly melt right through its own plastic jacket, resulting in a spectacular failure.
