In 1913, notorious occultist Aleister Crowley performed a series of intense rituals in a hotel room to summon the god Pan. He was allegedly so successful at generating an atmosphere of pure, unfiltered terror that one of his colleagues suffered a severe psychotic break, and another was found completely paralyzed in a corner.
