A closer look
Austin Osman Spare was a British artist who developed the technique of sigil magic, which essentially involves writing down a desire, scrambling the letters into a weird symbol, and then masturbating to it to charge it with magical intent. He believed that the conscious mind was completely useless for magic, so you had to bypass it by distracting yourself with physical exhaustion or orgasms at the exact moment you focused on your custom doodle. This incredibly bizarre method was later adopted by the entire chaos magic movement, meaning thousands of self-proclaimed wizards currently spend their free time getting extremely intimate with a piece of scrap paper. It is the perfect mystical system for the modern era because it requires zero expensive robes or ancient books, just a pen and a desperate lack of shame. You have to respect a magical philosophy that looks at elaborate ceremonial rituals and decides that solitary self-love is a much more efficient use of time
