You can craft the Great American Novel and still fail a second-grade spelling test. Fitzgerald’s manuscripts were legendary for being littered with horrific typos and misspelled words. Even his close friend Ernest Hemingway openly mocked him for it. Thank goodness for patient editors who knew how to spell 'yacht' when Fitzgerald couldn't.
