Long before next-day shipping was a thing, late 1800s postal workers in frozen wastelands relied on literal reindeer to drag letters across the tundra. Because regular pack animals would just freeze solid, the postal service bought a massive herd to pull sleds through ice storms. It was essentially a government-funded Santa cosplay, just with more frostbite and significantly less holiday cheer.
