A closer look
Paramount originally developed 'Twilight' as an action movie where Bella was a badass track star who fought vampires using night-vision goggles and a modified shotgun. The studio completely missed the point of the brooding teenage romance novel, wanting instead to turn it into a generic, high-octane MTV-style action thriller complete with jet skis and a secret vampire-hunting FBI division. Eventually, the rights shifted to Summit Entertainment, who decided to stick to the source material's weird, sparkling vampire dynamic. While the final product gave us a decade of insufferable pop-culture debate about Team Edward versus Team Jacob, it thankfully spared us from watching Kristen Stewart do tactical barrel rolls on a Yamaha WaveRunner
