A closer look
Every time you think you randomly stumbled upon a cool secret in Hyrule, you were actually just manipulated by geometry. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild revolutionized open-world traversal by throwing out map markers and relying instead on the 'Triangle Rule.' Nintendo's designers sculpted the terrain so that mountains, hills, and obstacles were almost entirely triangular. This shape naturally blocks the player's line of sight to what's directly behind it. As you traverse up or around the triangle, a new point of interest slowly fades into view. This genius topography tricks the human brain into feeling like it's organically discovering the landscape.
