D&D was funded by a shoe-repair shop

When Gary Gygax and Don Kaye couldn't find a publisher for Dungeons & Dragons, they formed TSR to publish it themselves. Short on cash, they brought in a third partner, Brian Blume, who funded the printing of the first 1,000 D&D manuals using money he made working in a local shoe repair shop.
