Public transit in Pyongyang is built with a heavy dose of sheer paranoia. Their underground rail system is situated over three hundred feet below the surface, making it one of the deepest commuter networks on earth. It was intentionally constructed this way so the entire tunnel system can instantly convert into a massive bomb shelter at the first sign of trouble.
