In a cartoon universe where coyotes are routinely crushed by anvils, one creature was apparently just too unhinged. When the Tasmanian Devil first debuted in 1954, the head of the animation studio furiously ordered the character to be shelved, believing he was too noisy, obnoxious, and inexplicably aggressive for children. Fortunately, Jack Warner later realized that Taz was insanely popular with test audiences, ultimately saving the drooling whirlwind from permanent corporate deletion.
