Because a normal face was apparently too mainstream, 15th-century European women believed a giant, bulbous forehead was the pinnacle of aristocratic beauty. They would spend hours painfully tweezing their front hairlines and shaving their eyebrows into oblivion, pushing their hairline back inches to look incredibly bald and sophisticated. Fiveheads were the ultimate status symbol.
