During seances, Florence would sit in a dark cabinet, and 'Katie' would walk out, conveniently looking exactly like Florence in a white sheet. She completely won over prominent chemist William Crookes, who endorsed her phenomena. Critics widely suspect the distinguished married scientist was less blinded by psychic power and more blinded by a pretty teenager.
