When a walkway disappears, the route can disappear with it
In RollerCoaster Tycoon, paths do more than give the park a tidy look: they connect guests to the places they want to reach. A guest can only follow a useful route if the game can trace a continuous way through that network. Delete a piece of path at the wrong spot, and a guest on the far side may be cut off from the rest of the park.
That is a connectivity problem: the destination may still exist, but there is no connected path leading to it. The guest’s intention has not changed; the route that made the intention achievable has vanished.
Why the stranded guest keeps moving
The odd sight of a guest wandering over grass comes from a mismatch between movement and navigation. A character can appear to keep moving around even when the game can no longer find a usable route back to the paths. Without a way to reconnect, that movement does not solve the underlying problem, so the guest may remain stranded indefinitely.
For park builders, a tiny edit can therefore have a surprisingly large effect. Removing a short stretch of walkway is not always just a cosmetic change: it can isolate guests who were already beyond it. A missing path can leave a visitor walking through the scenery while the park’s actual network—and the route home—ends just out of reach.
