How one man saved a silent film with live sound

When sound hit Hollywood, entire silent films became instantly obsolete trash. Jack Foley salvaged Universal's silent 1929 epic 'Show Boat' by standing in a single studio and projecting sound effects live in one continuous take. He matched footsteps, door slams, and fabric rustles perfectly to the unspooling film, effectively inventing the post-production sound industry just because a studio was too cheap to reshoot.
