We have been intensely lied to by our elementary school teachers. Revere was desperately trying to secretly warn the colonial militias without alerting the British patrols swarming the area. Riding through towns screaming at the top of his lungs would have gotten him instantly arrested. He actually just quietly knocked on doors and whispered warnings.
