Amedeo Avogadro completely theorized that as long as temperature and pressure are identical, any two gases will contain the exact same number of particles. Nobody actually believed him because it seemed overwhelmingly simplistic and deeply abstract. It took decades for the stubborn scientific community to accept that his wildly convenient hypothesis was perfectly accurate.
