Palladium absorbs absurd quantities of hydrogen

If hoarding was a chemical trait, palladium would be the ultimate offender. This transition metal can absorb up to nine hundred times its own volume in hydrogen gas at room temperature. It casually packs hydrogen atoms into its empty lattice spaces like a clown car that defies all spatial logic, inflating its own mass without entirely falling apart.
