When the US military vastly miscalculated the 1954 Castle Bravo nuclear test, it accidentally rained radioactive ash on a Japanese fishing boat called the Daigo Fukuryu Maru. Aside from the horrific radiation sickness of the crew, it sparked massive national hysteria in Japan over contaminated tuna. The 'tuna panic' basically wrecked the seafood market and birthed the cultural trauma that inspired Godzilla.
