Evliya Celebi, an elite 17th-century Ottoman traveler, justified his endless road trip by claiming the Prophet Muhammad personally approved it in a dream. While most of his accounts contain incredibly useful historical data about the empire, he randomly included a completely deadpan report of watching a sky-battle between Russian vampires and Circassian witches wielding violently uprooted trees.
