Nothing screams desperation like inventing a revolutionary piece of technology right before going bankrupt. The DuMont network created the Electronicam in the 1950s—a Frankenstein camera that simultaneously broadcast live TV and recorded pristine 35mm film. It allowed The Honeymooners to be syndicated forever, but it couldn't save DuMont from collapsing. They essentially built a perfect life raft while the ship was already entirely underwater.
